Papers relate primarily to Lynd's career at Sarah Lawrence College and include correspondence, largely letters received from family and publishers; lecture notes, reading lists, assignments, articles, reviews, and other materials used in preparing her classes; papers from her students; reprints of her speeches and articles; and clippings. Subjects include academic freedom, communism, the Middletown project, creativity, philosophy, shame and anxiety, psychology, and language. Other items include miscellaneous personal and family papers such as poetry, financial records, letters, and memorabilia, some concerning her children Staughton Lynd and Andrea Lynd Nold (Mrs. Joseph); tapes of a eulogy for Robert S. Lynd; and lecture notes and papers on Hegel and other philosophers, 1904-1929, written by Mary Case, a teacher of Helen Lynd's.
